Better Design vs Figma MCP server

The Figma MCP server gives a coding agent the frames, variables and components in your Figma files. Better Design gives it a design system, design guides and review rules when there is no design file.

Which should you choose?

Choose the Figma MCP server if
your screens are designed in Figma and the agent must build them as drawn, or write frames and components back into Figma.
Choose Better Design if
nobody hands the agent a design, or you want every screen checked against written review rules after the agent builds it.
Use both if
designers work in Figma but not every screen gets a design. The agent reads the Figma frame where one exists, and uses a Better Design system and its review rules for the rest.

Product boundary

Figma owns the design file and the canvas. Better Design does not read Figma files from its hosted server and does not write to Figma.

Figma MCP server

  1. Run claude plugin install figma@claude-plugins-official, or claude mcp add --transport http figma https://mcp.figma.com/mcp.
  2. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, select figma and sign in to Figma.
  3. Design the pricing page as a frame in Figma, and copy the frame's link.
